Statement on the 2024 Presidential Election
A few weeks ago, America chose to elect its 47th President. Though a rather unpopular choice amongst a majority of those who live here in our Great Golden State of California, it is time we set our grief aside and accept the result that was provided through the democratic process of our country. Donald Trump is not someone we see eye to eye with, he isn’t someone who shares our political views or personal beliefs and experiences. He’s never had to choose whether or not to pay the light or gas bill at the beginning of the month. He’s never had to worry about not being able to afford groceries, or his healthcare bills, or a college education. He’s never walked in the shoes of working-class families, single parents, or young people striving for a better future.
But despite these differences, our democracy depends on our willingness to engage, to fight for our values, and to hold our leaders accountable. As Californians, we have always been trailblazers—fighting for equality, climate justice, affordable housing, and the rights of all people. That doesn’t change because of one election. If anything, it becomes more important.
Let’s not let disappointment turn into apathy. Instead, let it fuel our drive to organize, to speak out, and to protect what we’ve built. Together, we can continue to make progress and work toward a country that truly reflects the hopes and dreams of every American. Let’s stay active, stay informed, and most importantly, stay united.
Let’s keep our heads high, California.
